Proverbs 26:2 – “As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse without cause shall not come.”
James 1:2, 5 – “My brothers count it all joy when you fall into various trials,…But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and with no reproach, and it shall be given to him.”
The Word of God states in Galatians 3:13, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us.” This means that our redemption from the curse is a present reality. We will not be taken out from under the curse someday; we are free from the curse right now. However, many believers do not understand this as a reality. They see themselves as still under the power of the curse, asking God to get them out. They don’t see that they are already out from under that curse, and the curse is trying to come on them. This lack of understanding has caused many Christians to continually be bound by the very thing that Jesus has already freed us from.
In order for the curse to manifest in the life of the believer there must first be a cause.
If it is true that our freedom from the curse is a present reality, why is it that the curse is still able to manifest in the life of the believer? Proverbs 26:2 tells us, “The curse without a cause shall not come.” This means that in order for the curse to manifest in the life of the believer there must first be a cause, a source or a foundation that the manifestation is built upon. It is learning to pinpoint these causes and deal with them on the basis of the Word of God that will cause the believer to live the abundant life that Jesus came to give.
So how do we pinpoint the causes that have allowed the curse to manifest? The answer is found in James 1:2, 5. In verse 5 we read, “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and with no reproach, and it shall be given to him.” However, when you take this verse in context with verse 2, we find that the wisdom being sought is wisdom for a test or a trial. This means that whenever you are being faced with a test or trial, it is the receiving of the wisdom of God that will cause you to get the victory.
The problem remains that, because most Christians do not have a revelation of the reality that they are free from the curse, they do not seek the wisdom from God to be free when the curse comes on them. They learn to live with the curse, instead of finding the cause and stopping it. For most Christians, it is only when the curse becomes too uncomfortable for them to bear that they turn to God praying He will get them out from under it. Again, not realizing He has already redeemed them.
Two major areas that Christians fail to receive this wisdom are in healing and finances. Most Christians have learned to live with minor aches, pains and sickness. In the same way they have learned to live with debt and lack in their finances. All forms of sickness, disease, and pains, and all forms of lack financially are under the curse. However, it is usually not until the pain or sickness becomes unbearable, or when there is simply too much financial pressure, that the Christian will look to God for relief.
Quit learning to live with the curse and recognize it for what it is.
What the believer must first do is quit learning to live with the curse and recognize it for what it is. If you have chronic pain or sickness in your body, that’s a curse. If you find yourself not having enough money to pay your bills, that’s a curse. If you find yourself not having enough left over at the end of the month to enjoy life and do the things that you desire, that’s a curse. And in each of these things, there is a cause or a foundation that is allowing that curse to manifest in your life.
So the next time you recognize that there is something of the curse manifesting in your life don’t put up with it. First, recognize that Christ has already paid the price for you to be free, and no matter the degree the curse is manifesting, you have the right to be free. Second, understand that there is a cause or a root issue that is allowing that curse to manifest in the first place. Third, take the promise of James 1:5, and ask God to give you the wisdom to see what that root cause is. Finally, use that wisdom and the Word of God to uproot that cause and enjoy the freedom Jesus purchased for you.
